Sports massage & soft tissue therapy manages, manipulates, and rehabilitates the soft tissues of the body, including the muscles, connective tissue/fascia, tendons, and ligaments. It can be used to aid recovery from an injury, through to relieving day to day aches and pains.

What can I expect during a treatment?

This is one of the most frequent questions I get asked, as people are unsure what to expect from sports massage and soft tissue therapy work

 So, let me give you an insight into what to expect from your first treatment:

  • On arrival, we will carry out a consultation and spend a short time discussing the reason for your visit and your current lifestyle.

  • I may look at things such as your posture, range of movement through certain joints, and I may include some functional testing, to look at your current mobility and form in certain exercises.

  •  For the massage treatment itself, I may ask you to remove certain items of clothing, so that I can easily get to the areas I am trying to target. Towels will be provided to ensure you feel comfortable throughout the treatment. 

  • To finish, I may take you through some remedial stretches, should this be necessary, or send you some via email. I will also talk to you about ongoing treatment and an aftercare plan to aim to prevent injury or further muscle dysfunction. 

I dont have an injury, how can soft tissue work benefit me?

In addition to benefits for sports practitioners, massage is a experience and can help unwind from the stresses of our normal day to day activities. This can prove invaluable as stress is shown to be a major factor in the onset of depression as well as to many physical ailments. Regular soft tissue therapy has an accumulative effect and helps to keep the body's tissues supple and healthy, reducing the risk of potential injury. 

I have an injury, how many sessions will it take to get fit?

During your first consultation an assessment will be made and it may be possible in some instances to give an approximate idea as to the number of treatments required.

What do I need to wear for my treatment? 

Any clothing is suitable for your treatment. However, bear in mind that dependent upon your needs and what we need to work on, the removal of outer clothing may be necessary, however you will be covered with a towel at all times. 

Can I arrange a treatment at my home? 

Mobile treatments are available but will be charged at a slightly higher price to reflect travel costs. Please contact Kay for more information.
